From high-end global fashion stores to movie theatres and even supermarkets, Indian malls are rapidly evolving into convenient—yet massive—one-stop entertainment hubs. But to get lost in such crowded locations is pretty normal these days, unless of course you are a regular visitor and know the exact geography of these premises. For those who are unfamiliar with these shopping havens and are prone to losing their way, help is round the corner. Google, with its incredible knowledge of the internet, has introduced a unique service called the Indoor Google Maps by means of which a user can access detailed floor plans for 75 popular indoor venues in India with just a few easy swipes.

The service will initially be available at select locations in 22 cities including Delhi – NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Coimbatore and Ahmedabad. Google has worked with 75 partners across these cities to bring

Indoor Google Maps for top indoor venues. Put simply, these maps are like having an indoor directory in the palm of your hand. Detailed floor plans will automatically appear when you are using the Google Maps app on iOS and Android-powered mobile phones, and zoomed in on a building where indoor map data is available.

“Using indoor maps, users will find it easy to locate stores, especially in an unfamiliar shopping mall or when they plan a visit to a museum like Salar jung in Hyderabad. With Indoor Google Maps, people can access detailed floor plans for indoor venues with a few easy swipes,” Google India director and product manager (Maps) Suren Ruhela said. The initiative by Google is purely a partnership-driven effort with mall owners where they upload the floor plans to integrate with Google Maps, he added.

In Delhi, Google’s Indoor Maps will initially be available at these select locations—Ansal Plaza, Khel Gaon, Ambience Mall Vasant Kunj, DLF Emporio Mall, Vasant Kunj, DLF Place Saket, DLF Promenade Mall, MGF Metropolitan Saket, MGF Square City, Pacific Mall (Tagore garden),

Apart from Indoor Maps, Google has also launched the new Google Desktop Maps which shows you the best driving, transit, walking, and biking options right on the map with travel time and distance to make your decision easy. According to Ruhela, the map quickly adapts with every click and search to highlight information that matters most. “When you click on points of interest—like a park, museum, or restaurant—we’ll highlight similar results to show you options you may not have known in your city. Thus you can save time by adding your home and work locations.”

The Google India product manager says that a user can also save time by adding his/her home and work locations to Google Maps. “You can check your travel time to the office by simply typing “work” into the search bar. And when you search for a destination, you’ll see a blue route light up automatically showing you directions from your home, complete with the time it’ll take you to travel. No one likes being stuck in traffic. So not only this, while driving on roads you can avoid traffic with real-time traffic reports. Real-time traffic reports show you where an accident, road closure, or traffic event has occurred so you know where the hiccups might be on your route.”

For even more great imagery, a user can check out our the Views page. Local search and trusted reviews displayed right on the map make it easier to find and discover the best places near the user. Search results appear directly on the map and places of interest like restaurants, parks and museums have their own icons so the user can easily see what’s in his/her area.”

So here is something which makes life easier and smooth!
